About Us

About Yelp!BR

To support the No Kill BR effort, Commercial Properties Realty Trust, a supporting organization of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, started Yelp!BR in 2009. As of January 1, 2015 Yelp!BR stands as an independent, non-profit organization. The organization was initially created to assist with the adoption of the animals at Animal Control. After a few months, the organization evolved and we started our own shelter, the Yelp!BR House.

In August 2016, the Yelp!BR House was lost to flooding.  After the flood, the organization transitioned to a foster-based model and now relies on caring volunteers to foster dogs until we find their forever home.

Most of Yelp!BR’s dogs come from East Baton Rouge Animal Control once their hold time is up. Once they are in Yelp!BR’s care they receive a full medical exam, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm and fecal test, and microchip. We also treat them for any other known medical issues. They are then housed in a foster home until they are adopted. Since our inception in October 2009, Yelp!BR has saved over 2,000 dogs.

Yelp!BR is in need of donations and volunteers to continue our mission of saving homeless and neglected dogs in the Baton Rouge area. If you would like to help by fundraising, donating, adopting or fostering, please email
